Searching for Inspiration? – Find Dragons
In searching the web about a month ago I found the following report from 2010. It speaks about Leadership Essentials needed for 2020. Where a lot can happen in 9 years, there were many concepts in it we are still talking about today, such as trust, storytelling and being comfortable with ambiguity. What really spoke to me was when Go Where There Be Dragons was highlighted: “Have Fears? Afraid of the Unknown? Then go there.”
This is my new motto. Change is scary and I have many fears around how my future is going to play out, however leaning in vs. running away has made me happier and calmer. I am now choosing this fear in order to create the life I want and seeing it as inspiration. Now, I go where there be Dragons whenever I can. Asking questions such as:
What is driving this fear?
How can it inspire me?
What can I do about it?
Before embarking on this new adventure, I had a trip planned… and ultimately decided to go, because while it was scary to walk away from what I was just beginning, I knew I had a lot more to find. I needed inspiration and staying put was not going to help me get the big leaps I need, or am looking for. I got on a plane and went. I saw Dragons everywhere.
Around the hills of Salzburg
A Coffee shop in Budapest
Even in the shadows of a church in Vienna. (I hope you see it too)
All pushing me to think differently, confirming what I want and creating a stronger belief in myself. I can find Dragons everywhere.
I am back in the thick of it and I keep seeing them. They don’t always look the way I think a Dragon would, and most of the time they are just a feeling, however they are there and keep pushing me forward to become ready for my future.
How are you getting ready for your future? How are you finding your Dragons?
